Four Tees and Two Jeans is all you need

and there’s a time for it. Depends on how confident in, and content with yourself you are

I think of all the time and money I’ve spent on that wardrobe of my mine over the years. The waste that I generated by buying a few of them a size or two short, promising that my future self would wear it, only to realize again that promises are seldom kept, and that the unlucky ones would sit out in my closet for their turn for the longest time and then dumped into the donation bins in the country.

I also think about the right sized clothes, all of them hanging in waiting in my closet. Shirts, Tees, and Trousers that would fit me and even then I haven’t worn them for years. No, I’m not plagued by “Decision Fatigue,” and I am trying to understand what’s going on inside me. Why I have chosen to rely only on a select few, according only them the privilege to hug my skin.

Then I think that despite all of this going on, I would still buy a shirt or two, or a couple of tees if I happened to like them.

So what’s the point in having all of this stuff if I actually do not wear them regularly? What’s the point in them taking space in my closet and in some sense, inhabiting a corner of my brain too? I get subtly uneasy in my subconsciousness when I see this and it makes me unhappy to a certain extent and then I have to deliberately shut myself off from it.

From college trying to look good and gong after branded clothes, to having a stable white-collar job for years where I could afford what I desired, and I did, I’ve reached a stage of conformity where all this doesn’t matter to me anymore.

I’ve realized that it’s important to make your life clutter free and completely remove the unwanted noise and presence that you would care about only sparingly. Over time, this would progress to probably all the stuff that I own.

Today, and in the coming days, it starts with my wardrobe.

So here’s what I’m going to do.

  • 4 Tees and 2 Jeans for my daily casual wear
  • A pair of shorts and 2 Tees for a good night sleep
  • 2 blue button down shirts, 2 trousers and 2 accompanying jackets for office and formal wear

I am glad at the prospect of seeing an uncluttered and extra light closet and never to worry about closet space and the feeling that it’s never enough.

I have an important task cut out of myself this week and that is of choosing the inhabitants of my wardrobe family. I will respectfully fold the ones I would donate and say thank you to them. Say my sorry to the ones I bought and have never worn and cared about. Say my final goodbyes.

Here’s to me wanting to live in contentment and peace. Here’s to me so that I can focus on only the important things in my life. Stuff that matters the most and makes a real difference.
